The Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker has been the best I've had in years. After some pretty disappointing coffee makers, this one has been easy to use and kept the coffee pretty hot. It's thermal carafe isn't of the quality of my old Black and Decker, so I wouldn't want to leave the coffee very long without drinking, but it is light and easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone.

We've used this for more than a month and are quite satisfied with the quality of coffee brewed. The timer is very easy to set, which is not always the case with other makers, and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for more than enough time. But like other brands of thermal carafes we have had (Braun, especially) it pours slowly and dribbly, unlike a non-carafe pot. That's one drawback, and another for this machine is the rather ridiculous necessity of having to cut the top quarter inch off a number 4 filter. That has to be done to enable the spray head to return to its proper position after you close the lid; otherwise the spray head will mash down the filter when it returns, preventing proper brewing. Anyone considering purchasing this maker should first measure the distance between their counter top and cupboards. This machine is too tall for us to be able to place beneath the cupboards.Customer Review: Decent engineering but excellent coffee

If I were handed a cup of coffee brewed from this machine, I would have given it five stars. The quality and temperature of the coffee are excellent. On to the machine itself:
The good:
1) Easy to clean
2) The carafe is very high quality; you can tell years of experience have gone into its design. Don't change a thing here!
The not-so-good:
1) The plastic used to manufacture the body of the coffee maker leaves lots to be desired. Had the manufacturer chose to use the same plastic that the carafe handle and lid were made of, this machine would look it's price.
2) As stated by another user, USE ROOM TEMPERATURE WATER. This makes a big difference in taste, as the brew temperature does appear to be low if chilled water is used. An added benefit of doing this is the outside of the coffee maker does not sweat from the cold water -- the body of the water cavity is not insulated.
3) The "pour stop" mechanism is poorly designed. I have to push it up by hand as I insert the carafe to avoid putting too much lateral strain on the nipple.

We have used thermal carafe coffee makers for some years and when our old one *another brand* finally died we couldn't find a same-brand replacement. After researching, decided our best bet was the Zojirushi. Produces great coffee; however, the brew mechinism into the coffee carafe is somewhat "QUIRKY" and we have experienced three or four run-overs - spilling onto the counter.
For this reason, we would rate this model EC-BD15 a 8 out of 10. We do like the fact that it is a 10 cup - one of the few on the market that we found.
Have always had great luck with Amazon products. Amazon, keep up the good work.

We were not familiar with this brand, but wanted a high quality thermal coffee maker with a black/stainless finish, and this looked like the best choice. So far, we're very pleased with it. It's simple to use, well made, coffee tastes great, nice looking, and reasonably priced. Only drawback might be the sight glass being on the side vs. the front, but that's a minor inconvenience, depending on how much counter space one has.
