Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zojirushi Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: You just thought you knew what rice tasted like ! Summary: 5 StarsI have became a brown rice and steel cut oatmeal freak since purchasing this cooker! Perfectly cooked every time and easy cleanup.
Be aware:
*3/4 U.S. cup = 1 rice cooker cup:
*This cooker has a maximum of 2 cups (1.5 cups U.S.) raw brown rice. More than enough for 2 people.
*It will cook 3 cups of raw white rice.
*For steel cut oatmeal, cooking 3/4 cup raw, cooks fine for 2 medium servings. Cooking 1 cup - add a pinch of salt to the oatmeal - to keep it from boiling up to the top vent.
I always pushed rice to the side of my plate until I tasted brown rice a year ago and ordered a $30 cooker from Amazon. Since then, I have eaten more rice in the past year than I have in the past 50 years. I noticed the brown rice grains in my cheapo cooker were sticky, cracked and exploded and decided to take a chance on this very fine cooker to see what the difference was. By varying the amount of water just a very little bit, you can make a rice that is firm or soft and have it come out the same every single time, just the way you like it. Use the markings on the inside of the pot as a general guide only and vary the water level to your own preference.
Because of the soak and rest cycle in the machines program, it takes about 90 minutes to cook brown rice. Steel cut oatmeal is about 50 minutes. Both worth the little extra time.
My wife objected to this purchase as just another gadget cluttering up the kitchen cabinet. Now she has oatmeal 3-4 times a week instead of maybe twice a year and even used some left over rice to make stir fired rice w/egg for breakfast and became hooked.
If the size is right, go for it.
Customer Review: Couldn't be happier Summary: 5 StarsI first bought a cheap-O cooker from Target and it was junk. Burned the first batch of rice. Dropped it in the recycle bin and started my research and even thought the price was far more than what I had paid for the cheap-O from Target, I absolutely do not regret it. Perfect brown rice ever time... Well worth the price.
Customer Review: A great Product Summary: 5 StarsZojirushi NS-LAC05 Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless Steel
This is such a great product that it really does not need a review. Looking at any other rice cooker would be an error unless you need one that makes larger quantities. From the very first time I was able to make perfect rice. Even when you make very small quantities, the rice is perfect. I actually start thinking about what I can make with rice while I am showering... the anticipation is that good. The directions are easy to follow. An added benefit is that the Zojirushi looks great in a kitchen. Other than the "Twinkle, twinkle" jingle that I could live without, don't even bother looking at other rice cookers. It is expensive and it is worth every penny.
Customer Review: Does exactly what it is designed for, and does it well. Summary: 4 StarsIf you are looking for a fool proof way of cooking rice, then you have found it. It takes some time to cook the rice (20min perhaps); it's not instant, and you can't really use instant rice in it or it over cooks it and makes it semi-pasty. What is great about it is that it's easy, and makes rice to a near perfect consistency.
Put your rice in using the measuring cup that it comes with, add water to the level that is dictated on the rice cooking bowl, select your type of rice (white, brown, and sushi) and press your cook button. A little jingle lets you know it starts and is finished. It cleans up really easy, the rice bowl seems to have a protective coating, just take a sponge, water and little soap for sanitation purposes, and it is easily cleaned.
The timer feature is great, set it for when you want the rice to be finished, and the cooker does the rest. If you don't get it when it is fished cooking it goes into a warming mode and actually keeps it fresh for a long time... I would have expected it to dry out but it really doesn't. I have never had a problem with it, and I recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: good cooker bit two small Summary: 3 Starszojirushi makes great rice cookers but I found this one too small (family of two adults)
I returned this and got the 5.5 cup size which works fine for 1 cup of rice and also works for lots of one dish meals)
I would say go for the bigger one
